Chinese welcoming was once more with very high standards:
5 stars hotel , good restaurants, welcoming by local government and representatives, welcome speech, cars and drivers dedicated to the riders. On the competitor's side, out of the 90 registered chineses, the best koreans came, but unfortunately, Japanese & Singapore skaters couldn't come.
About the rules, as the new ASSA rules were not available yet, the organisation used a local chinese rule. The jury was composed by Korean and Chinese judges.
Even if the organisation spent a lot for this event which has a good potential for the future, the managment of the competition was not perfect, making some mistakes, especially in speed slalom.
Obviously, chinese skaters were so many that the organisators decided to do a pre-qualification for them on 4th May. This pre-qualification was held without problems, but the next day, because of several delays due to a bad communication, the organisation did several changes in the schedule, telling the riders at the last moment.
They reducted the speed slalom qualification for foreigners only, keeping the times did by chinese skaters the day before, but this decision was unfair, since a strong front wind handicapped international skaters.
Some Korean skaters couldn't qualify , like Kim Sung Jin; the others qulified but not with good times (6th time for S.Laffargue, 10th time for Yu Da Jin).
Only Rekil (russia) could reach the top 5, and did the 3rd best time. The consequences of this have been seen during the duels, the fastest foreign skaters being all in the second part of the duel table, while average skaters were placed in the first part.
A new schedule change happened : the organisation decided to postpone the speed finals later in the evening and do directly the freestyle slalom contest.
After freestyle slalom finished, the competitors had to start directly the 1/8 of finals, with only one training run. While the first part of the duels was opposing 100% chinese duels, in the second part we could see a duel between S.Laffargue (Fra) and Yu Da Jin (Kor), two of the favourites for the title, s.Laffargue won in 3 runs. Russian Rekil didn't have to compete, since his opponent gave up.
A quarter final opposing two of the favorites , S.Laffargue vs K.Ryasantsev (Rus), would then happen. During this duel S.Laffargue qualified in 2 runs the Russian skaters did too many mistakes. In other quarter finals the best chinese skaters won against slower compatriots. In the semi-finals was qualified with the french skater, the young Weng Heng (Chn), and Xiaopang and Dingdangmao, the current two fastest slalom skaters of China. In the first semi-final Dingdangmao won against Wang Heng, and Xiaopang won against S.Laffargue, who did 2 fatal mistakes, in 3 runs.
S.Laffargue beated Wang heng and obtained the 3rd place. In the final, the runs were very tight, and Dingdangmao finally won the title against Xiaopang in 3 runs.

In the women contest, the qualification conditions were the same as the men, since the international skaters have been penalized by the wind. However, Soraya Ghadery (Fra) did the best time and the korean skaters placed themselves in the final table.
After that, the communication was not very precise for the foreigners and some judgment mistakes about penalties disturbed the clearness of the competition, since the skaters didn't know if they win or loose the runs.
Inspite of misfiring, S.Ghadery, after nearly been eliminated in semi-finals because of judgment errors (cones stuck to the floor), finally made it to the final, against Lee Eun-Young (Kor), that she beated in 2 runs, winning the title. The young Xiao Yuey(Chn), took the 3 place, beating Ziyu (Chn) in the 3rd place contest.

La compétition de Freestyle slalom s'est déroulée de la façon suivante, un run de qualification réservé aux participants chinois avait lieu la veille, les dix meilleurs étant qualifiés pour la finale internationale.
La finale s'est déroulée sur le meme format d'un run de 1min30 par rider. Le règlement utilisé était un règlement local, assez flou pour les concurrents européens, le règlement ASSA n'etant pas encore prêt et en cours de validation.
Là encore, des lacunes dans l'organisation n'ont pas permis aux riders de se préparer dans les meilleurs conditions, ceux-cis ne disposant que d'une ligne tracée de 80 cm sur l'aire d'echauffement. A part ça, la compétition de freestyle était bien organisée, les concurrents enchainant les passages sur un bon rythme.
On pourra aussi souligner une bonne initiative de l'organisation qui a donné à chaque concurrent 5 minutes d'echauffement sur l'aire de compétition juste avant le run.
Les juges coreens et chinois (au nombre de 5) notaient donc les riders sur les critères habituels, technique, style, vitesse d'execution, mais aussi sur des critères subjectifs tels que la musique et le "programme".
Ceci a aboutit à des résultats parfois surprenant, le coréen Kim Sung-Jin par exemple, malgré un excellent run, s'est retrouvé classé 9ème alors que tout le monde le voyait sur le podium, et Kim Jong Hwa s'est aussi retrouvé loin dans le classement. La victoire finale a été attribuée à Dajin Yu (Kor) devant les deux chinois Yang Hu Bin et Xiao Mo.
Le Français S.Laffargue s'est vu attribuer la 6 ème place et le Russe K.Ryasantsev une injuste 18è place.
Chez les femmes, c'est Jae-Hyun Choi (Kor) qui s'impose logiquement, les places d'honneurs ayant été attribuées à la chinoise Xiao Yuey et la coréenne Min-Kyoung Lee, S.Ghadery se voyant attribuer une décevante 8è place.

A cause des retards accumulés, l'épreuve de battle qui était prévue en démonstration a été annulée.

En conclusion, malgré une très bonne organisation pour l'acceuil et le confort des participants en dehors de la compétition, le côté "sportif" n'a pas été parfait, et de nombreuses lacunes ont été observées.
Cependant, une telle compétition est très encourageante pour le futur du freestyle slalom en Asie, car la motivation est présente tant du côté des compétiteurs que des officiels. Les organisateurs sont conscients des erreurs commises, et vont s'en servir par la suite pour améliorer la compétition et inscrire plus de détails dans leur cahier des charges.
Ils nous ont déjà donné rendez-vous l'année prochaine pour la deuxieme édition qui sera sans doute un évènement majeur sur la scene freestyle internationale.
